Well, where should I start, I have no idea …let me just briefly tell you about our hostel which we named as “Jasmine Blossoms”……totally excited about us shifting into a new place from that room of our poinachi hostel where we 16 CSE gals were staying (though we had our fun times over there and the first year of colleges are a memory for everyone) …thinking of that now how did we even manage to stay there the whole first year…anyways we were so thrilled to get into this new place to stay…a lovely house with a beautiful surrounding…it was one of those old kinds of house which we refer to as Tharavaadu in Malayalam……loved the old fashioned bricked roof…the old type of doors…for us it definitely was a “WOWW”….from that congested room of our poinachi hostel…we all settled in to the top floor… a year senior to college ….dint have any beds initially.. but we all happily managed sleeping on the floor with our respective mattresses …it was definitely a lovely house……and being an old house, it had a built-in ladder right in the centre of the hall upstairs which led to an attic (Thattinpuram) which was closed. So being very curious explorers to any such things few of us during a weekend opened it up one fine day in the mornings…there wasn’t much to look around but there were those olden type of slippers which we call Methiyadi (footwear) which our Karnavar (lalettan enacted) in the movie Manichithrathaazhu..there were 2 to 3 pairs of it… and surprisingly we tried to put it on and walk with it…..though it was a little unbalancing …we showed it off to our friends who was waiting at the bottom of the ladder. One of us thought of taking it down to our room…but then on second thoughts inniyum karanavar vallathum sherikum vannaalo…then we could find few bottles hung up on the roof. One of us explained that this they have chanted something and put it in that bottle and hung it up…which we found a little creepy. But then we just ignored that…so coming to the real incident…
So, the juniors occupied the ground floor…and all was going as a routine life… One night while the seniors were chit chatting, we heard a loud scream downstairs we all ran down asking them what happened…we could see the girls literally scared and shaken…one of them said there is something at the back door… we couldn’t understand what they were actually trying to tell us…we asked them again what happened. So, one of them literally shivered and said few of them were sitting in the mess hall and doing their assignments when suddenly the back door (the exit at the back) just flung open…and no one was standing there…we got a little freaked out thinking what it maybe. And they were assuring us that it was locked and how can it just flung open like that. So, then we thought to take a look at it and no one wanted to take that step…so one of our teachers caught hold of my hand and told me come we will just have a look…in my mind Ente ammmeee…enne thanne veno maám… Pretending to be the bold person among them myself and maám held each other’s hand and went to the back slowly. there was sobbing in the background from the juniors gladly no one saw my knees were trembling and literally scared…we walked slowly there was hardly any light and once again we heard a loud thud…we both literally got scared. It was at that time we had a few bachelors staying with a family in the next compound…one among us yelled out Chettan maare odi vaayo ivide aaro onde…like superheroes 2 of them came running to our hostel and we told them something or somebody was out there…. they went to the back and checked out everywhere even at the back of our house and they came back and said there was nothing there …it must be the wind. So, we were a little bit relieved …..phewwww …we calmed down the juniors and told them they could sleep up today if they felt scared…but they kept on telling us that there was definitely something out there for sure…finally we locked up all the doors properly and walked up …but looking towards that back door which was now pitch dark as the lights were switched off somewhere behind our head, we had these thoughts was there somebody out there or……. something out there ….inniyum karnavar chappal edukaan vannathaano…
More to come ………………………………………………………..
